Day of Prayer
Since this coming Thursday, May 1st, is the National Day of Prayer, last Friday’s Chapel message was on the topic of prayer. I encouraged the students to pray not just in public but also in private and that a good way to pray is to acknowledge the attributes of God mentioned in Psalm 28:7.
The following is an outline of the message which, if studied, could help enrich your prayer time this week.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7).
1. Strength – Acknowledge God’s power and might when praying.
- Nothing is too difficult for Him (Genesis18:14).
- He is able to accomplish beyond what we can pray or imagine (Ephesians 3:20-21).
- He is your fortress (Psalm 91:2).
- He is the One who keeps you (Psalm 121:3).
2. Shield – Acknowledge that God defends and protects us.
- The Lord Himself is your personal hedge of protection. He is the shield that surrounds you continually (Psalm 3:3, 2 Samuel 22:31).
- The Lord Himself, will make or keep you safe from danger, attack, or harm (Psalm 94:22).
3. Trust – Place our confident hope in God, not in ourselves.
- No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength (Psalm 33:16).
- We can’t trust in people; they fail.
- We can’t trust in things.
4. Help – Acknowledge that God is the one who can help us. We need to wait patiently for His help (Psalm 40:1-17).
