A Quiver Full of Arrows

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.” – Psalm 127:4

Just what does the Bible mean by this verse?  Are children like weapons that we unleash on our enemies?  While it might be tempting to think this way, I don’t think this is what is meant.
Instead, this scripture is referring to children of Christian parents who train their children to fulfill their purpose.

In order for an arrow to fly straight, great care and attention to detail must be taken before it is ever shot for the first time.  Just like we wouldn’t expect an arrow that was fashioned improperly to go in the right direction, neither should we expect our children to do what is right without being trained.

There are three parts to an arrow:  the point, the shaft, and the feathers.  Like an arrow, children need a sharp point.  They need a way of looking at things that can pierce through the clutter of this world and see things from God’s point of view.

An arrow also needs a strong shaft that won’t break.  This shaft is the unchangeable Word of God.
The feathers of an arrow are what keep it going straight and from veering off in the wrong direction.  For a child, the discipline of Godly parents and teachers are his feathers.
Children must be trained and tested before they can be trusted to fly on their own, and that’s what is taking place at Grand Island Christian School.

Your children are being sharpened and prepared to fulfill their purpose, which we believe is to serve their Creator with all their heart and to love their neighbors as themselves.
This is why we can join with the Psalmist in proclaiming, “Happy is the man who has a quiver of such arrows.”
